Privacy Policy — CarLingo

Last updated: October 20, 2026

CarLingo ("the app") is developed by Kodwo Awuni. This policy explains what information the app handles.

What we collect: almost nothing — and only what you choose to send

CarLingo does not create accounts, does not use analytics, and collects nothing in the background. The reference content — fault-code lookup, repair procedures, the warning-light guide, your saved garage vehicles and preferences — works fully offline, and nothing you enter there leaves your device. The only times anything leaves your phone are the optional features described below: Lingo, Find a shop, and feedback.

Lingo AI assistant (optional)

If you use the in-app Lingo chat, the messages you type and any photo you attach are sent to our AI service (through our secure server) solely to generate Lingo's reply. Photos and messages are processed only to answer your question — they are not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone else. Lingo transmits data only when you use it; if you never open the Lingo tab, nothing leaves your device.

Find a shop

If you search for repair shops, the ZIP code or address you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's free public search service to find nearby shops. Your search text is used only to return results — it is not stored by us. Tapping a shop only opens directions in your maps app.

OBD scan tool (optional)

If you connect an OBD-II adapter, the app talks to your car over Bluetooth Low Energy to read live data and fault codes. That vehicle data stays on your device — it is never uploaded anywhere.

Feedback

If you send feedback through the app, the text you write is transmitted so it can be read. Nothing else is attached to it.

On-device data

Vehicles you save in the Garage and any app preferences are stored only on your own device. We cannot see, access, or delete them. Uninstalling the app removes them.

Permissions

The app does not access your location, contacts, or files outside its own storage. It requests Bluetooth only if you use the OBD scan tool (to talk to your adapter), and camera or photo-library access only if you attach a photo in Lingo (so you can take or pick the image you want to send).

Children

The app is a general automotive reference tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If a future version of CarLingo handles data differently, this policy will be updated and the new version will not ship until it is.
